12th English Prose chapter 6 The Artist notes

In the story "The Artist" by Shiga Naoya, there is a 12-year-old boy named Seibei. He loves to collect, clean, and decorate gourds. He spends a lot of time looking for nice gourds and making them look beautiful.

One day, his teacher catches him cleaning a gourd during class. The teacher gets angry, yells at him, and takes the gourd away. When his father finds out, he becomes very angry and breaks all of Seibei's gourds.

Later, that same gourd is sold for a lot of money, but Seibei and the teacher do not know about it. After some time, Seibei starts painting to forget his sadness. However, his father scolds him again for painting. The story highlights how adults fail to understand a child's real talent and creativity.

एक दिन, उसके शिक्षक उसे क्लास के दौरान लौकी साफ करते हुए पकड़ लेते हैं। शिक्षक उसे डांटते हैं और उसकी लौकी छीन लेते हैं। जब उसके पिता को यह पता चलता है, तो वे बहुत गुस्सा होते हैं और सेइबेई की सारी लौकियां तोड़ देते हैं।

बाद में, वही लौकी बहुत सारे पैसों में बिक जाती है, लेकिन सेइबेई और शिक्षक को इस बारे में पता नहीं चलता। कुछ समय बाद, सेइबेई अपना दुख भूलने के लिए पेंटिंग (चित्रकारी) करना शुरू कर देता है। लेकिन, उसके पिता उसे पेंटिंग करने के लिए भी दोबारा डांटते हैं। यह कहानी दिखाती है कि कैसे बड़े लोग बच्चे के असली हुनर और रचनात्मकता को समझ नहीं पाते हैं।
